Sciety product news 07/2025
The latest platform news from sciety.org, the home of community preprint evaluation.
π What's new?
πΏ Video seminars
Sciety now includes video seminars held on Cassyni as part of the paper evaluation history.
We're exploring ways in which we can enrich the evaluation history of preprints, making it easier for researchers to find valuable insights and trusted perspectives on the emerging research.
The paper activity feed on Sciety can now include video seminars held on Cassyni, where researchers and review communities dive into the details of a paper, offering critical discussions, insights, and interpretations. Each seminar has it's own DOI, representing an expression of a paper.
You can check this out on the preprint "Building a community-driven bioinformatics platform to facilitate Cannabis sativa multi-omics research" where the Gigabyte review community discusses the paper in a Cassyni-hosted seminar.
Integrating video into Sciety brings a fresh dimension to how preprints are reviewed and shared:
- Richer Context: Video discussions provide a nuanced understanding of a preprint that written evaluations may not fully capture.
- Community Engagement: They spotlight the collaborative effort of review communities, showcasing the dialogue that builds trust and transparency in early-stage research.
- Discoverability and Credit: Linking each seminar to a DOI ensures these contributions are easily discoverable and citable, giving proper recognition to the reviewers and communities involved.
For researchers reading preprints, this means a more dynamic way to engage with the science, hear from experts, and decide what to explore further. For communities and reviewers, itβs a way to amplify their efforts, make their work more visible, and demonstrate their commitment to rigorous and transparent evaluation practices.
π What's next?
π₯ Groups
We will be adding more PCIs and PREreview Clubs.
𧱠Infrastructure development
We will be migrating Sciety to a shared infrastructure which will allow us to benefit from wider expertise with the eLife organisation, and optimise our deployment of Sciety.
ποΈ DocMaps
We will be making improvements to Sciety DocMaps to surface more of the metadata associated with community peer evaluation. We also expect to be able to use our COAR notify integration to be notified of and so ingest DocMaps produced by other platforms such as Kotahi and PCI and aggregate the metadata.
π¬ Your voice matters
We want to make community preprint evaluation a go to signal for knowing which papers to read and we can't do this without your input, so Book a 1:1 call to learn more about our latest changes and help us plan the future of equitable, open research outputs.
π Stay connected
Weβll be back shortly with everything that's happening on Sciety.
Until then, you can find us on Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn
