The month of June in the UK is when we celebrate LGBTIQ+ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Intersex Queer +) PRIDE. We are joining that celebration by flying our own LGBTI+ flag using our logo.
Sciety recognises that Pride is not just a celebration but a continuing effort to keep building on the achievements of generations past. The struggle to ensure equality and fairness are extended to LGBTIQ+ people has not ended. LGBTIQ+ people continue to face attacks, violence, abuse, humiliation, persecution and other negative attitudes across the world. Over the last few years, that abuse has intensified especially towards trans-people in the UK.
Creating a fairer, inclusive and equal society in our world, is a responsibility that requires us all to take positive action, no matter how little. Although a young team, at Sciety, we want to contribute from the beginning by showing solidarity at every step of our development. Changing a logo is not enough, the internal organisational culture is equally important.
So in this our first year of existence, we are not shy of joining PRIDE! We want to make it a core part of our culture from the outset, ensuring that advancing equality is at the centre of everything we do. We recognise that diversity brings rich rewards to organisations through contributions that encompass wider perspectives. Sciety promises that within our team, we will constantly review our awareness through staff training, internal discussions and regular reflection on the real-life differences which make our world unique. Action will be taken swiftly wherever any opportunities are found.
Beyond this, we want to assure our budding community that our space will be safe, inclusive and welcoming.
